Incredible Impact

We think that business can do more than do good on the side. We believe impact should be ingrained in company DNA. In 2015, we noticed that many children affected by poverty couldn’t afford underwear and sanitary products. We also noticed that donations and one-for-one models were harmful to local communities and economies. So we decided to create a business that could power projects that spark economic growth, improve health and broaden education.

We set up Moja, a company, and Moja Foundation (a Stichting in The Netherlands). These two organisations are independent and governed by different people. There is an agreement between them that an amount is donated to the foundation for every sale. This ensures 3 things:

  1. That one pair of underwear or one reusable sanitary pad is made in Tanzania by people who may have a distance to the labour force.
  2. That workshops are given on health, hygiene, puberty and menstrual health within a close distance to where the products are made.
  3. That the underwear and sanitary pads are distributed in schools alongside the health workshops.
For example, for a 3-pack brief, an amount of the money goes towards producing 3 pairs of underwear or 3 sanitary pads locally in Tanzania. The amount also covers the distribution of the underwear and education.

It’s important to us that everything in Tanzania is run by local people. It’s also important that we continue to expand education and entrepreneurship projects. That’s why our foundation has also sought additional funding through grants and donations. You can find out more about Moja Foundation here.

We are also very conscious about impact on humans and the environment in our production of underwear. If you were looking for information about that, you can find it on our production page
